Indiana Big I Catches Big Audience On November 12-15, the Independent Insurance Agents of Indiana hosted its Big I Convention at the Westin Hotel in Indianapolis. In addition to strolling the 125 exhibit booths, which included the SIS booth with Jenny Beatty and Julie Williams, agents participated in continuing education seminars as well as listened to feature presentations. The event was topped off with the keynote address from Frank Abagnale, one of the world’s most famous con men, who cashed $2.5 million in fraudulent checks in every state and 26 foreign countries over a five-year period. Today, he is a consultant for the FBI, specializing in keeping con artists from stealing like he did. His thrilling story was captured on film in Steven Spielberg’s 2002 release starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hanks — Catch Me If You Can, which was the theme of the conference. Ohio Big I Presents Changes and Challenges The Independent Insurance Agents of Ohio held its 108th annual convention on October 4 at the Columbus Hilton at Easton Town Center. The distinguished panelists of CEOs and association leaders discussed agent/broker compensation investigations, the SMART bill, and carrier disclosure responsibilities at the Strategic Leadership Exchange. SIS’ Jenny Beatty and Julie Williams took a break from the tradeshow to attend a special recognition dinner in honor of Tom Hardy for his 30 years of service to the association. Tom is retiring after serving as CEO for the longest period of time in the association’s 108-year history. Back at the SIS booth, Jenny and Julie celebrated SIS’ 10th anniversary with visitors by serving anniversary cake. GLAD to Be Bronze SIS was GLAD to be a bronze sponsor of the Michigan Association of Insurance Agents’ 18th annual Great Lakes Automation Day (GLAD) on November 9, held at Michigan State University’s Kellogg Hotel and Conference Center in East Lansing.
