Spotlight on Success Let the Beta Begin As an SIS Partner user, you hear us talk a lot about Beta testing. But, you may not understand just what that means and why it’s important to you. The various testing phases are crucial to ensure you have a seamless transition to product upgrades as well as to the new Partner XE system. Beta can be defined as the second of a group or series. If Beta testing is second, you’re probably wondering, “what’s first?” At SIS, testing of new software programs typically has three stages: • Alpha • Beta • Controlled production and general rollout Within each phase of testing, there are seven components: • Hardware • Software • Database • Agency Testing • Support (Help) • Enhancements • Deployment SIS experts first test each individual function of Partner XE internally before delivering it to our Alpha agencies. During Alpha testing, we work to guarantee that our new XE ASP model is stress-tested to handle the processing of multiple agency systems at the same time. We also ensure the database and other product features are functioning properly together. “Our first SIS Alpha phase is underway,” said Nolan Davis, SIS Systems Supervisor. “We have been able to perform Partner XE functionality testing in production agency environments without impacting our current Partner production systems. We are lucky to have devoted agency customers that are willing to participate in this extensive testing process.” Once confident in the results of Alpha testing, SIS will begin the Beta stage where we will test the full Partner XE system. The Beta testers are nominated and selected by SIS based on several defining factors — primarily, qualified and committed agencies willing to entrust ALL agency staff to installing, testing and running dual systems (Partner 6.2 and Partner XE) in their current agency workflow and to reporting any problems to SIS. During the Beta phase, we will again check all the functions we checked during Alpha testing and make sure the agency’s current Partner 6.2 database is converted as expected. We will also check that the program is installed and working for the entire agency staff — so SIS can research the problem areas, make the necessary updates/corrections, and re-test any issues at the Beta site. “We are happy to see the new Partner XE system as well as get our hands around the delivered functionality,” said Wally Dearwester, Office Manager at Guild & Landis Inc. in Dayton, Ohio. “As a previous Partner Beta agency, we have always wanted to be involved early-on with implementing Partner system updates and upgrades into our agency environment.” Finally, once any issues are worked out in Beta testing, we’ll begin a controlled production rollout to all our agencies. This three-step testing process is the most efficient way to make sure all SIS users receive the best product and service available. We look forward to completing the Beta testing so we can begin delivering you the next generation of Partner!
